AceShowbiz - The 32-year-old model and former Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo, recently shared an emotional TikTok video detailing her tumultuous first trimester. Culpo, who is expecting her first child with her husband, NFL star Christian McCaffrey, revealed that she had been dealing with severe health issues since learning of her pregnancy.
In her TikTok post, filmed on December 12, 2024 when she was nine weeks pregnant, Culpo outlined a series of unfortunate events that began with pneumonia.
"I have been on bed rest since week two and before that I also had pneumonia so then I was sick also for two weeks. All in all, I've truly been on bed rest for like four weeks," she recalled. Culpo's health took a concerning turn when she developed a subchorionic hematoma, a type of blood clot in the uterus.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a subchorionic hematoma occurs when blood collects under the chorion membrane during pregnancy, leading to symptoms like vaginal bleeding.
Culpo described her experience with vivid detail, "Towards the end of my two weeks of being 'really sick,' I got a subchorionic hematoma, which is basically a blood clot in my uterus and I was bleeding everywhere."
The condition left her feeling "so exhausted" and confined to bed rest under strict doctor's orders, prohibiting her from traveling or engaging in physical activities.
Despite this daunting period, Culpo shared a glimmer of hope, revealing that her condition had improved. "It was really exciting to see that there was still a heartbeat," she said, expressing her gratitude for her pregnancy's progress. She also mentioned that she had started using progesterone suppositories to maintain a healthy environment for the baby.
In a heartfelt plea to her followers, Culpo offered words of encouragement to other pregnant women facing similar struggles.
"So anyone out there with a subchorionic hematoma or SCH as they call it, I hope this video will help you if you experience a lot of intense bleeding in your first trimester. It's not always the worst case that you're thinking," she said, tearfully adding that she prayed for everyone on their maternity journey.
Culpo's candid confession highlights the importance of emotional support during pregnancy. By sharing her journey, she aims to provide comfort and hope to those who may feel isolated by their experiences. As she continues her pregnancy journey, Culpo remains optimistic and thankful for her health and the health of her baby.
