AceShowbiz - The saga of Wendy Williams, the charismatic former host of "The Wendy Williams Show," continues to unfold with new developments and conflicting narratives.
Williams has been voicing her frustration with what she describes as a "prison" environment in her New York City assisted living facility, prompting a strong rebuttal from her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey's attorney.
Wendy Williams, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in early 2024, has been under court-ordered guardianship since 2022. Her allegations have painted a bleak picture of her current living conditions, including claims that she isn't allowed visitors and must seek permission to access amenities.
Williams' representative highlighted these issues in a call to "Good Day New York," where she detailed the restrictions imposed on her in the fifth-floor memory unit.
Morrissey's lawyer responded publicly, disputing Williams' characterizations as "untrue, inaccurate, incomplete or misleading." According to the attorney, Williams "receives excellent medical care" at the facility, which boasts a spa, a workout room, excellent food, a dining room, and outside terraces.
Additionally, the attorney emphasized that Williams can call and see her family members whenever she desires, noting her recent trips to Florida for her son Kevin Hunter Jr.'s college graduation and her father's birthday.
Despite these assertions, sources allege that one of Williams' trips was initially denied by a judge and only approved after the premier of the "Saving Wendy" documentary.
Furthermore, while the legal team insists on the quality of care Williams is receiving, she has voiced strong opposition, even going so far as to drop a note reading "Help! Wendy!!" from her window, following which she was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for a cognitive test which she reportedly passed with flying colors.
Following the welfare check by cops, the guardianship is reportedly now being investigated as "elder abuse."
The legal dispute also touches on financial aspects. Morrissey's attorney mentioned that the guardian has been working without pay since 2022 and has only received one payment of less than $30,000 for services rendered. This claim forms part of their argument against what they perceive as misleading information about the guardianship's operation.
As Wendy Williams seeks to terminate her guardianship, the court's decision remains a pivotal factor in her future. Until then, the public remains divided, and the media scrutiny continues to place both Williams' health and autonomy, along with her guardian's role, under the microscope. Only time will tell how this dramatic chapter in Wendy Williams' life will conclude.
