The 'You'll Be in My Heart' hitmaker no longer feels 'hungry' to create new music as his struggle with severe health issues stopped him from returning to the studio.

AceShowbiz - The renowned singer and drummer Phil Collins, 74, shared a harrowing update on his health struggles, significantly impacting his once exhilarating music career. In multiple interviews and a recent documentary, Phil opened up about the brutal reality of his declining condition.
"I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I'm not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I've been sick. I mean very sick," he revealed to Mojo magazine.
Years of high-energy performances have taken a severe toll on Phil's body. He suffered a dislocated vertebra in 2007 during a Genesis reunion tour, resulting in painful and lasting nerve damage. This necessitated surgeries in 2009 and 2015, ultimately causing drop foot, a condition impeding his ability to walk or play drums effectively.
Reflecting on his condition, Phil shared in the "Phil Collins: Drummer First" documentary, "It's still kind of sinking in a bit… I've spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock."
Despite longing to play, Collins acknowledged, "If I can't do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and not do anything."
The Genesis legend's last performance was in May 2022, where he performed from a chair, passing the baton to his son, Nic Collins, to continue his father's legacy.
Nic reflected on the challenges musicians face, noting, "I think that's really what it is with my dad - is just this kind of sense of 'you're a drummer, you're invincible, you do what you do.' But you don't know it's gonna take a toll in the long run."
In recent years, Phil's health has further deteriorated. In addition to his nerve damage, he is battling diabetes, which has compounded his mobility issues.
Amidst these challenges, Phil found solace in his family - he now focuses on his role as a grandfather, celebrating the birth of his daughter Lily Collins' first child, Tove Jane.
In a recent Instagram video, Lily was seen introducing Phil's song "I Can't Dance" to her baby. "Tove beginning her musical education...," she wrote in the caption.
Although Phil Collins may never return to the stage, his contributions to music remain unforgettable. As he poignantly expressed, "I just feel like I've used up my air miles."
