On heels of her critically acclaimed role in 'Wicked', Tony-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo is set to take on the titular role of sacred saviour Jesus in the Hollywood Bowl production.

AceShowbiz - In a departure from her iconic portrayal of Elphaba, "Wicked" star Cynthia Erivo will embrace the profound and complex role of Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's renowned musical "Jesus Christ Superstar".

The production, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo, will begin performances at the Hollywood Bowl on August 1 and run through August 3.

Erivo is no stranger to the world of "Jesus Christ Superstar," having previously portrayed Mary Magdalene in an all-female concept album in 2020, where she delivered a captivating rendition of "I Don't Know How to Love Him."

As Jesus, she will once again showcase her vocal prowess on beloved numbers such as "Hosanna," "The Last Supper," and "Gethsemane." Ecstatic over her upcoming role, she gushed, "Just a little busy this summer, can't wait."

This summer's production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" marks the long-awaited return of the Hollywood Bowl's annual summer musical tradition, which was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
