He wrote on Instagram, "Sad to announce the passing of my Father 'ERNESTO AKA CUBA.' Papi te quero para siempre (I love you forever). This has been tough, I'm not looking for sympathy, just Honoring my Dad."
Fat Joe remembered his father as a "Legend." He expressed his love for his family, acknowledging the emotional toll of his father's passing, "To my Mom, Wife, Brothers and Sisters i love you and we'll always be united."
Fat Joe himself is as a father to three children, including his eldest son, Joey, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome and autism. Fat Joe raised Joey with the help of his parents after the biological mother left the family.
"A father's got to be a father. I don't know how to be a fake father," Fat Joe remarked on the "Club Shay Shay" podcast. "I don't know how to give up on my kids. I don't know how to not love on my kids. That's impossible."
