On January 10, Katie announced the passing of her father, who died on January 5. "I feel like I am a stranger to grief," she shared. "As much as it has touched my life and so many I love. It's not something I have become comfortable or well acquainted with." This was accompanied by pictures that showcased cherished memories with her dad.

"Dad, I love you forever, thank you for the million laughs, for the father daughter dances throughout life and for the love you gave us," Katie wrote in her emotional tribute.

Katie reminisced about the little things that marked her father's presence, such as the smell of Irish Spring that always reminded her of him. She spoke warmly of Rich, stating how he made everyone feel welcome and comfortable with his endless dad jokes and charming personality. "He was always so supportive of my brothers and I growing up and as adults championed our endeavors," she added.

Katie's brother Rocky Maloney also reflected on the immense impact their father had. In his own Instagram post, he recounted how Rich was a constant presence in his life, from football practices to games. "He was such an amazing person, dad, and friend," Rocky wrote.

"He was at every football practice, every game either home or away. He was always there for me. Anyone who knew him knew he had an infectious personality, even though he seemed to complain about everything."
