AceShowbiz - Los Angeles has been struck by a series of catastrophic wildfires, leading to the destruction of homes, businesses, and treasured community spaces. Among those stepping up to help are numerous celebrities, including Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest, who have pledged $1 million to aid those affected.
The "Freaky Friday" star announced the contribution on Instagram, sharing a photo of the wildfire's destruction. Curtis, who recently flew to New York before cutting her trip short, teared up while discussing the situation on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon".
"As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there," she said in a follow-up statement.
She revealed that her community, the Pacific Palisades, has been severely affected, with many homes turned to ash. Over 100,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, and five deaths have been reported as nearly 30,000 acres are engulfed by simultaneous fires.
Curtis is not alone in her efforts. Soap opera star Cameron Mathison, musician Mandy Moore, and singer Jennifer Hudson have also made public statements, expressing heartbreak and urging support for affected communities.
Other notable figures like Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle, Tina Knowles, and Marlon Wayans are raising awareness and encouraging donations to those in need. Knowles specifically applauded the bravery of firefighters and expressed resilience, saying, "We will recover!"
Despite the chaos, celebrities are banding together, showcasing solidarity and support in these trying times. With Jamie Lee Curtis leading the charge with her substantial financial contribution and public appeal, the hope is that more aid will pour in for the beleaguered residents of Los Angeles.
This outpouring of support from Hollywood not only highlights the city's tight-knit community but also underscores the power of collective action in the face of natural disasters.
