According to his co-star, Timothee Chalamet refused to document his Bob Dylan transformation for social media when studio bosses wanted to use the video to promote 'A Complete Unknown'.

Studio executives proposed recording a time-lapse video showing Chalamet preparing for the role, but the actor firmly declined the request. His co-star Edward Norton, who plays folk legend Pete Seeger in the film, supported Chalamet's decision.
Norton explained, "Why do you want to take away from an audience the opportunity to experience the mysticism, the trick, the suspension of disbelief? It's like, if we don't stop talking about how much time we spend in the makeup chair or how we learn the guitar, I'm just starting to feel all of us should just leave people alone. Like, leave 'em alone; let 'em watch the piece."
Chalamet's intense preparation included mastering the guitar and harmonica for five years. He also worked with a voice coach and studied Dylan's performances and interviews to perfect his posture and vocal tone. The film's hair and makeup team created three distinct looks for Chalamet, representing Dylan's evolution over four years in the early 1960s.
Norton praised Chalamet's dedication, saying, "From day one, Timothée was so switched on. I was completely knocked out by the depth of his seriousness and absorption into this."
Chalamet explained his decision to keep the details of his transformation private, saying, "The whole thing was really just a sort of magical experience. I don't want to ruin it with words because, really, it's deeply personal to me."
