'Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk' actor Joe Alwyn is leaving behind his past relationship with Taylor Swift and he believes everyone else should do the same.

AceShowbiz - Joe Alwyn is ready to leave the past behind and hopes others too. In a candid interview with The Guardian, the 33-year-old actor insisted that he's moved on from his six-year relationship with Taylor Swift, which ended in early 2023, and how he's focusing on his future.

"That's something for other people to do. We're talking about something that's a while ago now in my life," Alwyn explained when asked if he wanted to move on from his highly publicized past. "So that's for other people. That's what I feel."

Alwyn and Swift's relationship began shortly after his breakout role in "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" in 2016. Despite fears that dating one of the world's most famous pop stars might overshadow his career, Alwyn stayed grounded by concentrating on what matters most to him: friends, family, and work.

"I have tried just to focus on controlling what I can control," he said. "Right from the beginning, tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course."

The actor shared his method for dealing with public scrutiny, "Noise outside of that, I think I've done what lots of people who find themselves in the public eye do, which is just try and ignore it. If you don't, and if you let all of that other stuff in, and if it starts to affect you and your behavior, you're living from the outside in. And then you're pretty f***ed."

Alwyn credits his support system for keeping him grounded during difficult times, "I have great family and friends and real things in my life; those are the things that kept me tethered to the ground. So I don't know how else to say it, it's … just in a different room."

Reflecting on his past relationship, Alwyn spoke to The Sunday Times Style in June 2024, describing his time with Swift as "long, loving" and "fully committed" although he acknowledged the challenges of their public breakup.

"I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it's suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in."

Following the end of their relationship, Alwyn remains optimistic heading into 2025. "I always feel optimistic at the top of a new year," he told The Guardian. "No, I feel great, I feel lucky to be in a good place."

Swift has since dated Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce and confirmed their relationship in October 2023 following months of speculation. Alwyn is also moving forward and is reportedly dating and happy, according to a source close to him.

As Alwyn looks to the future, his message is clear: it's time for everyone to move on.
