GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria H. Woods, attributed her success to the education she received at Melrose and expressed how nostalgic it felt to be back. "Like I remember taking them tests on their computers! I don't know it just bring back, it's a nostalgic feeling like I can't believe I'm this old now!" she exclaimed to the excited crowd. This visit marked her first time back at Melrose since graduating in 2017, making the occasion even more special.

The newly named Gloria H. Woods Media Center is set to open next summer, transforming the school library into a state-of-the-art facility. With GloRilla's contribution, the library will feature modern, comfortable seating and allergen-free carpets, creating a collaborative learning environment. Part of the funds will also upgrade learning software, equipping students with cutting-edge tools for research and productivity.

"To be able to create something I wished for growing up warms my heart," GloRilla shared with the students, who welcomed the news as an early Christmas gift. Her donation will also establish the GloRilla Mentorship Program, providing personal development opportunities such as field trips and direct video chats with the rapper herself. Additionally, $2,500 will be allocated to the Melrose Clothes Closet to ensure students in need have access to essentials like toiletries and clothing, and another $2,500 will support family-school ties through the Office of Family Engagement.

Dr. Marie Feagins, the MSCS superintendent, praised GloRilla's commitment, stating, "The excitement on GloRilla's face is what it's all about, she is is a clear representation of leave a legacy. She is also a clear representation of what it means to have a quality education; it can take you anywhere in the world."

GloRilla's homecoming couldn't have been more triumphant, as it not only coincided with her being named Billboard's Hottest Female Rapper of 2024 but also highlighted her ability to turn personal success into community upliftment.
