AceShowbiz - As "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" prepares for its theatrical debut this Friday, December 20, Paramount Pictures has announced plans for a fourth film in the family-friendly series. The news comes amid positive anticipation for the sequel, which is projected to top the box office with $55 million to $60 million.
The first two "Sonic" movies have collectively grossed $725.2 million worldwide and generated over $180 million in global consumer spending. They have also inspired a Paramount+ spinoff series called "Knuckles."
Paramount's confidence in the franchise is further evidenced by the end credits sequence in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," which hints at potential plot elements for the fourth installment.
The original "Sonic the Hedgehog" video game debuted in 1991, and the film adaptations have been notable successes at the box office, along with Nintendo's "Super Mario Bros. Movie." Jeff Fowler has directed all three "Sonic" films to date, with Ben Schwartz voicing the titular speedster and Jim Carrey portraying his main antagonist, Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
In "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," Carrey plays both Robotnik and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. The cast also includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog.
