Series creator Bill Lawrence confirms the 'Scrubs' reboot on ABC will acknowledge season 9's events, feature new characters and delve into J.D.'s aspirations from the season 8 finale.

AceShowbiz - "Scrubs" is set to return on ABC with familiar faces and a focus on the original show's legacy. Series creator Bill Lawrence is developing the reboot, with several original cast members in talks to reprise their roles.

While season 9 introduced a new cast, Lawrence stated that he is open to including some of those characters in the reboot. However, he emphasized that the reboot will primarily center on the original core group of physicians at a new hospital, exploring their current careers and the addition of new interns or residents.

The reboot will not erase the events of season 9, which shifted the focus to a med school and relocated the characters. Unlike other reboots, such as "Roseanne" and "Will & Grace", the "Scrubs" redux will remain true to the original series' progression.

"I thought some of those actors and actresses were really starting to find their footing. Kerry Bishe, [Michael] Mosley, Dave Franco... they're all still working for a reason. They're all very good," Lawrence told TVLine. He further added, "I'm not against seeing those people [again], and I think it would be fun to have one of them zip by." While acknowledging the value of the newer cast members from season 9, Lawrence emphasizes that the core focus will be on the original characters who still work as physicians. In doing so, the show aims to introduce new interns or residents to the mix.

Additionally, the original location of Sacred Heart will not be featured in the reboot as it has been demolished in real life. Lawrence stated that the focus of the reboot is to explore whether J.D.'s dreams from the season 8 finale have come true. "I wonder if J.D.'s dreams all really did come true. That, to us, is interesting," Lawrence teased.

The reboot will engage with the central characters' lives and relationships, including J.D.'s marriage to Elliot, their expanding family, and the dynamics with the Turks and Coxes. The addition of new characters will provide fresh perspectives and interactions for the original cast.

Fans can anticipate the return of their beloved "Scrubs" characters alongside new faces, as the reboot navigates the challenges and triumphs of life in a hospital and explores the fulfillment of J.D.'s aspirations. The ABC reboot of "Scrubs" promises to keep the spirit of the original series alive while introducing new storylines and characters.
