AceShowbiz - Matthew Gray Gubler, who portrayed the beloved character Dr. Spencer Reid on the original "Criminal Minds" series, is finally making his debut in the sequel, "Criminal Minds: Evolution", on Paramount+.
Gubler will appear in a single episode of season 18, marking his return to the franchise since its revival in 2022. The storyline for his appearance has not yet been revealed, but it is known that Reid has been away from the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) on a special assignment.
Although the sequel series has frequently mentioned Reid's absence, Gubler's scheduling conflicts previously prevented his return. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his appearance, and now, with schedules aligned, it seems the wait is over.
In the past, both Gubler and showrunner Erica Messer have expressed their desire for his comeback, but it never materialized due to scheduling issues.
Gubler, who joined "Criminal Minds" in 2005, starred in over 300 episodes and is considered a fan-favorite. He also directed 12 episodes during the show's 15-season run.
Aside from "Criminal Minds: Evolution", Gubler is also working on a CBS Studios pilot titled "Einstein" (working title), in which he stars as a brilliant but directionless great-grandson of Albert Einstein who helps a local police detective solve puzzling crimes.
The news of Gubler's upcoming appearance on "Criminal Minds: Evolution" has sent fans into a frenzy, with many expressing their excitement on social media. The exact date of his episode has not yet been announced, but it is expected to air during season three.
