AceShowbiz - Talulah Riley, the ex-wife of billionaire Elon Musk, recently penned an essay for the Sunday Times shedding light on her life with new husband Thomas Brodie Sangster. Contrary to what some might think, Riley, 39, insists that her life on a nearly 20-acre rural homestead in north Hertfordshire, England, is not that of a "trad wife" - a term that connotes an old-fashioned stay-at-home-wife and homemaker role.
Addressing her countryside lifestyle, which includes making meals from scratch and taking care of numerous animals, Riley wrote, "We live in an era where lifestyles are commoditized online, indexed by hashtags. We are encouraged to 'be the brand' and exert influence, prioritizing personal growth."
Riley rebuffed the idea of labeling her lifestyle, emphasizing its many facets. "So please don't call me a trad wife," she implored, highlighting the unique nuances of her situation. "I've been divorced twice - there's nothing trad about that unless you're Zsa Zsa Gabor."
Riley's essay paints a vivid picture of her new life with Sangster, whom she married in June. The couple lives with four dogs, two horses, a pony, two pigs, a hive of bees, three geese, 15 chickens, countless ducks, and 70 sheep. They also plan to introduce a milk cow to their menagerie.
"Happiness, for me, has wandered in slowly and seems directly proportional to the number of chickens that come tapping at the kitchen door every morning," Riley shared. She added that her husband's presence also contributes to her newfound happiness. Quoting philosopher Spinoza, she wrote, "Happiness is a virtue, not its reward."
Riley and Sangster, who met on the set of the "Sex Pistols" FX series three years ago, have committed to their rural life wholeheartedly. "Here on the (fake) farm it's all about love and manure, actually. Slap a hashtag on us, if you will. Or come and join us," Riley encouraged readers.
Reflecting on her transition from her brief stint in Los Angeles with Musk to her current pastoral life, Riley wrote, "I'm now in my 30s and safely home in the UK, and it's full steam ahead on the rural idyll." This new chapter with Sangster, who has embraced the country life despite his urban upbringing, marks a significant shift in her journey.
