AceShowbiz - Disney has removed an untitled "Star Wars" film from its 2026 release calendar, while moving the latest installment of the "Ice Age" franchise into that slot. "Ice Age 6" is now set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
The "Star Wars" film initially scheduled for that date had not been officially announced. However, Disney has confirmed that Simon Kinberg will write and produce a new "Star Wars" trilogy, which will feature new characters and will not be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga.
Meanwhile, the previously announced "Star Wars" film centered on Daisy Ridley's Rey is still in development under director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Additionally, Jon Favreau's "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 22, 2026, as a spinoff from the popular Disney+ series.
Disney also revealed that "Ice Age 6" is in production, with Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Simon Pegg all returning to voice their respective characters. The animated film is the first theatrical installment in the series since Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
It is worth noting that several other potential "Star Wars" projects have not yet come to fruition, including entries from Patty Jenkins, Kevin Feige, Rian Johnson, and David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The next confirmed "Star Wars" film on the schedule remains an untitled installment set for release on December 17, 2027.
