The 'Batman' actor reveals a deleted scene from the season finale of the HBO spin-off series hints at a different perspective on his character Oswald Cobblepot.

AceShowbiz - "The Penguin" has been hailed as one of the best TV shows of the year, with the finale receiving universal praise. However, showrunner Lauren LeFranc and director Jennifer Getzinger cut a scene from episode 8 that could have altered viewers' perceptions of Oswald Cobb (Colin Farrell).

Farrell explained the deleted scene to Cinemablend, "There was a scene in the eighth episode where a kid says, 'You're the Penguin, aren't you,' and then something about his mother. And then I say to him at the end of the scene, 'You tell your mom, The Penguin takes care of his own.' "

Despite its conceptual relevance, the scene was removed because it conflicted with the episode's main theme of exposing Oswald's true nature as a sociopath. The finale painted a definitive portrait of his depravity, making it difficult to reconcile this heroic act with his true self.

While the scene would have subtly evoked Oswald's admiration for his mentor Rex Calabrese, it may have seemed too comic book-y in tone for the show's grim and realistic depiction of organized crime.

The Penguin's journey to the top of Gotham's criminal underworld sees him embracing elements of his iconic comic book persona, including the tux and top hat. Despite his disdain for the Penguin nickname, he may have developed a sense of ownership and pride in it behind closed doors. The deleted scene, had it been included, could have hinted at this potential evolution.

"The Penguin" stars Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O'Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Michael Zegen, Carmen Ejogo and Theo Rossi. The eight-episode DC Studios drama is a continuation of Matt Reeves' "The Batman" epic crime saga.
