Over a decade after her breast cancer diagnosis, the Oscar-winning actress reflects on her decision to forgo reconstructive surgery, finding comfort and style in a unique wardrobe solution.

AceShowbiz - Kathy Bates, now 76, underwent a double mastectomy in 2012 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. While the decision not to undergo reconstructive surgery raised concerns among some, Bates remains resolute.
"I had really heavy breasts," she explained. "They were like 10 pounds when they removed them. It's strange, but I kind of enjoy not having breasts."
Her CBS reboot, "Matlock", has found a clever way to address her wardrobe. "They devised a really cool Spanx-ish camisole with very thin straps and falsie cups," Bates said. "They're so comfortable and give me a nice shape."
Prior to this solution, Bates often opted to stay home. "I didn't go out with prophylactics at all," she admitted. "Or I went out with them, but they were hot and heavy."
Bates' decision not to reconstruct was influenced by her age and lack of desire for a relationship. "At the age I was, I really didn't want to go through that," she said.
Despite her cancer history, which includes ovarian cancer in 2003, Bates remains optimistic. "I'm really okay with not having breasts," she affirmed.
In her new show, she plays Madeline Matlock, a whip-smart and unassuming attorney who solves cases with finesse.
