AceShowbiz - Karol G has addressed the backlash over a lyric in her new single "+57", which features a bunch of artists like Feid, DFZM, J Balvin, Maluma, Ryan Castro, and Blessd.
After the song was released on November 7, it quickly drew criticism from Rolling Stone En EspaƱol, which claimed that one particular line "perpetuated the sexualization of minors." The line in question, "A baddie since she was 14 / When she walks into the club, you can feel her energy."
In response to the controversy, Karol G took to Instagram Stories on Monday, November 11 to apologize. She stated that she had been "very affected" by the reaction and took full responsibility for the mistake.
"The lyrics in the song were taken out of context," Karol G wrote. "None of the things said in the song are written in the way people have claimed, nor were sung with that perspective, but I hear you, and I take responsibility and I realize that I have so much to learn. I feel very affected and I'm sorry from the heart."
Karol G also expressed her gratitude to her fans and said that she appreciated the support of her fellow collaborators on the track. "I want to keep in my heart the beautiful energy we worked with that day!" she wrote.
J Balvin and Feid have both voiced their support for Karol G's apology on social media. "Queen, we are with you," Balvin wrote. "You have given us so much glory, so this doesn't reduce your greatness. Plus that song is ours, so we're going to support you unconditionally."
DFZM, meanwhile, gave a blunt response to the controversy, saying in an Instagram Story that people who don't like the song should simply "not listen to it."
