Former 'Dawson's Creek' star James Van Der Beek gets candid about his health issue, announcing his cancer diagnosis and thanking his loved ones for their support.

AceShowbiz - James Van Der Beek, renowned for his role in "Dawson's Creek," has revealed that he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Despite the severity of the diagnosis, the 47-year-old actor remains optimistic and determined to continue living his life to the fullest.

In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Van Der Beek shared, "I have colorectal cancer. I've been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family. There's reason for optimism, and I'm feeling good."

Colorectal cancer, which can start in either the colon or the rectum, is a serious health condition that affects the large intestine. According to the American Cancer Society, the colon and rectum together make up the large intestine in the digestive system, meaning early detection and treatment are crucial.

Despite his health challenges, Van Der Beek has not let his diagnosis halt his career. He recently made an appearance in the television series "Walker" and is set to star in the upcoming Tubi original film, "Sidelined: The QB and Me," scheduled for release on November 29.

Furthermore, Van Der Beek will be part of "The Real Full Monty," a special event airing on December 9, which aims to raise awareness for prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer testing and research.

"Embarrassingly, I thought I was just doing Anthony Anderson a favor and supporting cancer. But then once we got there and we really started to talk about these issues, everyone started opening up and we got to know each other on a different level," fellow participant Taye Diggs shared about the event.

On the personal front, Van Der Beek has been deeply committed to his family. He and his wife, Kimberly, have six children: Olivia, 14, Joshua, 12, Annabel, 10, Emilia, 8, Gwendolyn, 6, and Jeremiah, 3. The family has shared memorable moments together recently, including a trip to Egypt and a heartfelt Halloween celebration where their daughter Gwendolyn showcased her creativity by handcrafting an angel halo for her costume.

Additionally, Van Der Beek's marriage to Kimberly, now over a decade strong, has been a pillar of support for him through this challenging time. The actor hinted at their strong bond and mutual support in an Instagram post celebrating their union. "Nothing could have prepared us for this past year - except perhaps the previous 12," he wrote, reflecting on their journey together.

While the road ahead may be tough, James Van Der Beek's bravery and unwavering positivity shine brightly. His story serves as an inspiration, reminding us all of the importance of family, resilience, and living life to the fullest despite the challenges we face.
