AceShowbiz - Eddie Murphy has been tapped to portray George Clinton in an upcoming biopic. The film, currently untitled, will be directed by Bill Condon, who previously collaborated with Murphy on the 2006 musical "Dreamgirls." Virgil Williams ("Mudbound," "The Piano Lesson") is adapting Clinton's 2014 memoir, "Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain't That Funkin' Kinda Hard On You?" for the screenplay.

The biopic will chronicle Clinton's remarkable journey from his humble beginnings in North Carolina to his reign as the "Godfather of Funk" and leader of the legendary Parliament-Funkadelic collective. Murphy will portray the eccentric musician, known for his innovative sound, surreal performances, and outlandish sci-fi themes.

The project was initiated by Catherine Davis, a lifelong George Clinton fan who brought the idea to Murphy. John Davis and Greg Yolen will join Murphy as producers through Davis Entertainment and Eddie Murphy Productions, respectively. Clinton, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Archie Ivy, and Jeff Jampol will executive produce.

Murphy previously collaborated with Amazon MGM Studios on projects such as "Candy Cane Lane" and "Coming 2 America". He is currently set to star in the studio's upcoming comedy "The Pickup" with Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson.

The cast and crew behind the Clinton biopic boast an impressive pedigree. Condon has received numerous accolades for his work, including an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Gods and Monsters." Williams earned an Oscar nomination for his "Mudbound" screenplay and co-wrote "The Piano Lesson" with Malcolm Washington.
