AceShowbiz - Bruce Springsteen surprised fans in Montreal by kicking off his Halloween night show with a spirited rendition of Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters" title song. This marked the first time the 75-year-old legend had ever performed the track live.
Opening with the familiar keyboard and horns introduction, Springsteen's backup singers danced along as he sang the chorus, sparking a sing-along with the enthusiastic audience.
Despite setlist surprises becoming rare for Springsteen, the E Street Band has embraced his decision to stick to a standard setlist. "It's not a jam session, it's not stump the band," said Garry Tallent, bass player with the band since 1973. "It's an experience, it's a show."
After "Ghostbusters", Springsteen returned to familiar territory with classics like "Hungry Heart", "No Surrender" and "Atlantic City." The setlist also included more recent tracks like "Letter to You" and a Commodores cover of "Nightshift".
Springsteen's Canadian tour continues through November 22 and concludes with a show in Vancouver. The band will then tour Europe in May, June and July 2025.
Last week, Springsteen's documentary, "Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band", premiered on Disney+, and he also made a campaign appearance alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, criticizing Donald Trump's lack of understanding of American values.
Springsteen's Halloween performance is a testament to his enduring appeal and his willingness to embrace the spirit of the season. The song, which topped the charts in the mid-80s, remains a beloved classic, and Springsteen's version brought a touch of spooky nostalgia to the Montreal crowd.
