AceShowbiz - Olivia Rodrigo's "Guts" world tour has been anything but smooth sailing, with the young pop sensation encountering several setbacks including border control scare. During a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," the 21-year-old singer revealed a harrowing encounter with Border Patrol while touring.
As she recounted, Rodrigo was mistaken for a criminal and nearly arrested while attempting to reenter the United States from Canada on her tour.
"We were going from Canada to, like, Portland or something," she shared. "We were at border control, I give them my passport, and they're like, 'OK, whatever.' And they knock on the door [of the tour bus] and they're like, 'We need Olivia.' "
Believing initially that the request was merely for an autograph, a tired Rodrigo soon found herself in a stark interrogation room with a "big cop with a gun." He began with the chilling question, "Have you ever been arrested?" When she denied it, he pressed further, creating self-doubt. "I'm like gaslighting myself. I'm like, 'Oh my God, maybe I was arrested and I didn't know it.' "
The Disney Channel star turned pop icon described how the officer's stern warnings about the consequences of lying to a federal officer escalated her fear. "He scared me. He's like, 'You know you could go to jail for lying to a federal officer like this. Like, this is really bad.... I'm freaking out. I'm like, 'I'm not gonna be let into America!' "
After a tense 30 minutes, clarity finally emerged when the officer asked her to verify her name again, "Olivia Rodrigo. R-O-D-R-I-G-O." The officer then revealed, "Oh, there's a girl who looks just like you that's your same age that's been arrested multiple times, and her name is Olivia Rodriguez." The mix-up had been due to mistaken identity, much to Rodrigo's frustration.
This wasn't the only bump in Rodrigo's tour. While performing in Australia, she fell through a trap-door in the middle of the stage at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Although the incident looked "pretty terrifying" upon rewatching the video, Rodrigo maintained a professional attitude, quipping, "I mean, show must go on. That's showbiz, baby."
Despite the fall, Rodrigo took the mishap in stride, even acknowledging a poignant connection afterward when the hospital nurse shared a name with her late grandfather. "I was like, 'Wow, that was him looking out for me, making sure I didn't get hurt. And so I'm really happy it happened. I think it's a beautiful story."
From border control scares to dramatic stage mishaps, Olivia Rodrigo's "Guts" tour is proving to be an unforgettable journey, marked not just by her musical talent but by her resilience and humor in the face of unexpected challenges.
The tour is set to resume in March across South America, before concluding in England, giving fans worldwide another chance to see this resilient performer in action.
