AceShowbiz - In a candid interview, John Legend revealed the heartbreaking details of the late-term abortion his wife, Chrissy Teigen, underwent in 2020 after losing their son, Jack, at 20 weeks gestation.
"My wife was well past 15 weeks when she had to have an abortion," Legend said on the "Club Shay Shay" podcast. "She was miscarrying and bleeding out, and all these things were happening. Her life was in danger."
The partial placental abruption, where the placenta detached from the uterus wall, posed a life-threatening risk to both Chrissy and Jack. Despite their efforts, the couple was unable to save their beloved baby.
"People that have an abortion after 15 weeks almost always wanted to keep the baby," Legend emphasized. "But there's some kind of complication that came up that they have to have an abortion."
Legend vehemently rejected misconceptions about abortions and the government's involvement in such deeply personal decisions. "When we went through all these fertility struggles and then had a miscarriage, it made it even more clear to me how personal everything [is] that happens in that room with your ob-gyn," he said. "Women don't need the government telling them what to do with their bodies."
The couple's loss of Jack highlighted the critical importance of preserving women's reproductive rights, especially in light of the recent restrictions and bans on abortions following the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
"The government needs to stay out of it," Legend said of abortion decisions. "Let these women - let them and their families and their doctors - make these decisions. We don't need the government to be involved in it."
