AceShowbiz - Florence Pugh is shedding light on her intense transformation for her latest film "We Live in Time". In an Instagram post, the 28-year-old actress revealed that she shaved her head to portray Almut, a rising chef diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer.
"Getting to do this for this role was a true honor and a privilege," Pugh wrote. "To give my body to the story was something I always felt passionately and confidently about."
Pugh's co-star Andrew Garfield took on the poignant task of shaving her head on-camera. "It was a privilege to be given that job," Garfield said. "What if I somehow destroyed the head of one of the best actors of her generation?"
The role held deep significance for Pugh, as it resonated with her own experiences. "I've never found it a challenge to be acting in pain. I sometimes prefer it," she said. "That's always the most important thing, whatever I do. I feel like it's my duty to play human and ugly, to translate what looks real and what feels painful."
Pugh's transformation not only impacted her performance but also her real-life journey. "I was going through so many [aesthetic] iterations when I was also going through life decisions," she said. "I was like, 'Cool, well I don't look like me. I'm changed. I'm changing.' "
The film's powerful portrayal of grief has touched the hearts of many, including one fan who shared her story of losing her mother to lung cancer. "Your performance is such a gift," the fan wrote to Pugh. "I can't express my gratitude enough."
Pugh responded with heartfelt gratitude, "I can't imagine the ways that it affects one's life and the processing that inevitably comes for years after. It's always the wish that my work speaks to someone, somewhere, feeling the same thing."
"We Live in Time" has received critical acclaim for its moving exploration of love, loss and the human experience. Pugh's transformative performance as Almut is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her craft and her ability to convey raw emotions with authenticity and grace.
