AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez's generosity wasn't always appreciated by everyone. The billionaire singer/actress has come under fire after she was spotted giving money to a homeless man in New York City.

On Tuesday night, October 15, the 32-year-old stepped out for dinner at Nobu Fifty Seven. As she left the luxury Japanese restaurant, she stopped to take a couple of pictures with fans and sign autographs.

At the same moment, a man reportedly approached the former Disney darling and asked her for money. In a video obtained and released by TMZ on Wednesday, the apparent panhandler, who wore a camouflage jacket, was standing in front of Selena with her bodyguard nearby.

According to the report, Selena stopped in her tracks on her way to a waiting SUV and asked her bodyguard, who was dressed in an all-black outfit, if he had any cash. The bodyguard took out some cash and handed a $20 bill to the homeless man.

Selena told the man, "Have a good meal," before she hopped into her black SUV. Someone was heard saying "thank you" repeatedly as the "Only Murders in the Building" star drove off into the night.

After the video went viral, many weighed in on the amount of money Selena gave to the panhandler. "So many money and only 20$," someone criticized the star, who was recently named the youngest self-made billionaire in the U.S. "That's like a penny split into 100 parts for her," another similarly complained, while another asked, "That's all????"

A fourth critic remarked, "The girl is loaded and that's all she can spare? Damn." Someone else wrote, "Should have given him at least a $50. $20 bucks is nothing nowadays in New York. CAnt even buy a pack of smokes and a tall boy beer for that anymore."

Others, however, have come to Selena's defense. One of them pointed out, "For those who didn't read, she asked her bodyguard for $20. She didn't have cash on her or she probably would've given more."

"Before y'all comment, how much did you give the homeless guy??" another clapped back at the critics. A third fan raved over the "Good for You" songstress, "Selena is the best humain [sic] being and you can't tell otherwise."

A fourth fan praised Selena anyway, "She's a real angel And those who criticize her for the small amount she has given him should know that at least Selena has stopped to give him something and has not passed him by like other celebrities do."

Back in September, Bloomberg reported that Selena is worth over $1.3 billion, thanks largely in part to her skincare and cosmetics line Rare Beauty. When asked about her new status, she told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month, "I personally think it's distasteful to talk about money but I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products." She added, "They're the ones that made this dream of mine come true. So I'm really, really honored and just happy."
