AceShowbiz - This year's MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) are set to make history, filled with monumental firsts and record-breaking moments. With the majority of nominees being women, the competition is fierce, and the anticipation is palpable. The ceremony will be broadcast live on November 10 from the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England - a city hosting the event for the first time.
Taylor Swift stands out this year with a leading seven nominations following the release of her 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department". She's up for top honors including Best Artist, Best Video, Best Pop, and Biggest Fans. Swift also garnered nods for Best Live and Best Collaboration for her hit "Fortnight" featuring Post Malone.
Yet, Taylor faces stiff competition. Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter each scored five nominations. Grande's single "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" is under consideration for both Best Song and Best Video.
Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar, the lone male artist among the top nominees, secured four nominations, including Best Hip-Hop and Best Video for "Not Like Us".
The diversity in this year's nominees highlights the global reach of pop music. Artists from various regions of the world are well-represented, with Charli XCX from England, Ayra Starr from Nigeria, LISA (from South Korean girl group BLACKPINK) hailing from Thailand, and Tyla from South Africa, each making waves.
This year will also see 19 first-time nominees vying for their first MTV EMA. New faces include Kehlani and Tinashe in the Best R&B category and BTS' Jimin for Best K-Pop, marking his first solo nomination. Additionally, the Best Push category will feature promising new talents like Flyana Boss, Laufey, and Shaboozey.
Anticipation for this event is sky-high, especially with renowned singer Rita Ora reportedly set to host the ceremony. Ora previously hosted the 2017 MTV EMAs and is expected to bring her unique charm and energy to the stage once again.
Fans from around the globe are encouraged to cast their votes online at the EMAs website until November 6, 00:00 CET. The results will be unveiled during the live broadcast at 9 p.m. GMT on November 10 on MTV UK, Channel 5, and Pluto TV, with the show available on demand on Paramount+ starting November 12.
As women lead the charge and global diversity shines through, the 2024 MTV EMAs promise to be a night to remember, celebrating the very best in music.
