Billie Joe Armstrong's vocal disdain for Las Vegas has sparked significant backlash against his band Green Day, including music bans from local radio stations in the Sin City.

AceShowbiz - Billie Joe Armstrong, the frontman of the iconic punk rock band Green Day, is no stranger to voicing his opinions. Earlier this month, while performing in San Francisco, Armstrong made headlines by expressing his frustration with MLB team owner John Fisher over the decision to relocate the Oakland A's to Las Vegas. During his rant, Armstrong didn't mince words, stating, "I hate Las Vegas. It's the worst s***hole in America."
Las Vegas, it appears, hasn't taken too kindly to Armstrong's comments. Two local radio stations reacted swiftly. KOMP 92.3 took to Instagram to announce that it would be pulling "any and all" Green Day songs from its playlist rotation. The post had a straightforward caption, "It's not us, Billieā¦it's you."
Following this, X107.5 declared on its website that it too would be banning all Green Day music "effective immediately." Their statement added, "Sin City heard him loud and clear - and X107.5 is not having it."
As to how much before the ban Green Day was being played on these stations is uncertain, as is the duration of this ban. X107.5's recently played tracklist includes songs from Sublime, Sum 41, Arctic Monkeys, and The Offspring - an indication that the station continues to support modern rock, just not Green Day for now.
This comes after Green Day's "Saviors" single, "Dilemma", reached Number One on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay and Alternative Airplay charts earlier this year.
Ironically, Armstrong's distaste for Las Vegas hasn't kept him from performing there. Just last year, Green Day held an intimate, secret concert at the Fremont Country Club as part of a small-venue tour leading up to this year's stadium shows. Additionally, the band headlined the 2023 iteration of the annual nostalgia-fest When We Were Young, held at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.
While the tension between Armstrong and Las Vegas is undeniable, it hasn't entirely severed the relationship between Green Day and their fans in the city. Whether these radio bans will impact the band significantly remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Billie Joe Armstrong never shies away from speaking his mind, regardless of the consequences.
