AceShowbiz - The "RoboCop" TV series reboot for Amazon MGM Studios has added a star-studded crew to its roster. James Wan, known for his work on "The Conjuring" and "Aquaman", has been attached to executive produce alongside showrunner, writer and EP Peter Ocko. They will be joined by fellow EPs Michael Clear and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster, with Danielle Bozzone overseeing for the production company.
The series will follow a giant tech conglomerate that teams up with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime. The official logline describes the protagonist as "a police officer who's part man, part machine."
The original "RoboCop" film premiered in 1987 and starred Peter Weller as the titular cyborg police officer. It was followed by two sequels in 1990 and 1993 and a 2014 reboot starring Joel Kinnaman. The franchise also includes several television shows, video games and comic books.
Ocko, who recently created the AMC series "Moonhaven", has written for a diverse range of shows, including "Dinosaurs", "Dead Like Me", "Pushing Daisies", "Black Sails", "The Office" and "Lodge 49". Wan is currently involved in numerous projects as a producer, including "Teacup", "Salem's Lot", "The Monkey", "M3GAN 2.0" and "Mortal Kombat 2".
The "RoboCop" series is part of Amazon's efforts to capitalize on MGM's extensive IP library for both film and television projects. Amazon is also working on a "Legally Blonde" prequel series and recently announced showrunners for a "Poltergeist" project.
