AceShowbiz - Emmy-winning actor Kyle Chandler is in talks to star in the lead role of Hal Jordan in HBO's upcoming series "Lanterns". The series follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two iconic members of the Green Lantern Corps, as they investigate a dark mystery on Earth.
Chandler is best known for his starring role as Coach Eric Taylor in the acclaimed drama series "Friday Night Lights." He has also appeared in films such as "King Kong," "Super 8," "Argo," and "Manchester by the Sea."
The role of John Stewart has yet to be cast. The search is ongoing for a young, up-and-coming actor to play opposite the more experienced Chandler.
"Lanterns" was picked up for eight episodes by HBO in June 2022. The series is written, showrun, and executive produced by Chris Mundy ("Ozark"), with Damon Lindelof ("Watchmen") and Tom King (Eisner Award-winning comic book writer) serving as executive producers and co-writers.
The series is described as having a gritty, "True Detective"-like vibe, with Jordan reluctantly mentoring Stewart. The two characters investigate an Earth-bound murder with far-reaching implications.
Chandler's casting marks a significant step in the development of "Lanterns," which is part of the DC Universe banner overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Other DC projects under development include "The Penguin" starring Colin Farrell, "Creature Commandos," and Season 2 of "Peacemaker."
"Lanterns" is expected to begin filming in January 2025 in Atlanta.
