AceShowbiz - Flavor Unit Entertainment, Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment have announced plans to create a series of biopics focusing on prominent figures in hip-hop culture. The first project in this slate will be a biopic of the legendary Queen Latifah.

Queen Latifah, 54, will produce the film through her company, Flavor Unit Entertainment, alongside business partner Shakim Compere. Westbrook Studios, co-founded by Will Smith, and Jesse Collins Entertainment are also involved in the production.

"We all came into this industry together and Hip Hop has shaped each and every one of us," Latifah and Compere said in a statement. "It is a dream to be able to collaborate with friends and colleagues that have not only a shared understanding, but are able to tell these stories that were the backdrop of our lives."

Smith emphasized the significance of starting with Latifah's story, saying, "There's no better story to start with than the one of Queen Latifah, an undisputed legend who has both entertained and inspired us for so many years."

Latifah has enjoyed a successful career in both music and acting. As a rapper and singer, she has released seven studio albums. Her acting credits include roles in "Jungle Fever", "Taxi" and "Hairspray". She currently stars on the CBS series "The Equalizer".

The biopic will delve into Latifah's rise as one of rap's most prominent and political figures, as well as her award-winning career in film and television. No casting information or release date has been announced yet.

This partnership marks a significant collaboration in the entertainment industry, bringing together three studios with a deep understanding and appreciation for hip-hop culture. The biopic slate aims to shed light on the influential lives and careers of hip-hop icons, inspiring and educating audiences worldwide.
