These collaborations surprised music fans, including those who appreciated the artists for launching such joint tracks.
From pop songs to country singles, AceShowbiz has listed surprising collaborative songs that were released in 2024 so far.
1. Shakira, Cardi B: 'Punteria'
Shakira's fans apparently were not expecting their idol to collaborate with Cardi B. On March 22, the Colombian singer/songwriter launched "Punteria", on which she features the female hip-hop artist. The collaborative track was released along with its official music video.
On the joint song, whose title translates to "Aim" in English, Shakira sings in the Spanish language. In the meantime, Cardi shows off her skills in rapping. The song serves as the sixth single from Shakira's 12th studio album titled "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran".
2. Taylor Swift, Post Malone: 'Fortnight'
Despite her admiration towards fellow artist Post Malone, Taylor Swift did not join forces with the rapper/singer until recently. Earlier this year, she revealed that Post is one of her collaborators in her latest album "The Tortured Poets Department".
The "All Too Well" hitmaker and the "I Had Some Help" singer released their collaborative song titled "Fortnight" on April 19 before launching its dramatic visuals on the following day. The track turned out to be one of fans' favorites from the record. It even occupied No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
3. Beyonce, Miley Cyrus: 'II MOST WANTED'
Beyonce Knowles shocked her fans, famously known as Beyhive, when she surprisingly released two country songs. The R&B icon also revealed that she was about to launch a country album titled "Cowboy Carter", which features many fellow artists including pop star Miley Cyrus.
Beyonce and Miley collaborated for their joint song "II MOST WANTED", which was unleashed through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records on April 26. The track received positive responses and even debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
4. Normani, Gunna: '1:59'
Normani Kordei features Gunna on a joint track titled "1:59", which came out through RCA Records on April 26. The particular song marks the pop/R&B star star's comeback to the music industry following two years of break.
The collaboration with the hip-hop artist also serves as the second single from her debut solo album "Dopamine". On the song, which was teased by the former Fifth Harmony member on social media, the songstress and the rapper go back-and-forth about reconnecting with a past lover.
5. Post Malone, Morgan Wallen: 'I Had Some Help'
Post Malone left festivalgoers surprised when he brought Morgan Wallen onstage to belt out their first-ever collaboration. Post, whose music is described as a "melting pot of the country, grunge and hip hop," performed "I Had Some Help" with the country star at Stagecoach on April 28.
On May 10, less than one month following their duet performance, Post and Morgan officially released the joint track about relationship struggles. On the song, the two artists reflect on "how two people in a relationship can equally influence each other into making bad decisions."
6. Gracie Abrams, Taylor Swift: 'us.'
Music fans apparently had no idea that Taylor Swift hints at the title of her collaborative song with Gracie Abrams in the "Fortnight" music video. In the visuals, which was launched in April, the "All Too Well" hitmaker is seen holding a book with an "us." sign on it.
On May 14, Gracie revealed the tracklist of her album "The Secret of Us", which includes her collaboration with the superstar titled "us.". The song, which was released on June 21, explores "the aftermath of a broken relationship, filled with regret and longing."
7. Camila Cabello, Drake: 'HOT UPTOWN'
Camila Cabello initially sparked dating rumors with Drake after they were spotted on a yacht together in 2023. However, the romance speculations were debunked when the former Fifth Harmony singer revealed that she features the Canadian star in her album titled "C,XOXO".
On June 28, Camila released "HOT UPTOWN" featuring Drake. While the pop songstress "asserts her self-worth and the value of her love" on the joint track, the hip-hop artist "reflects on the challenges and efforts involved in maintaining a relationship."
8. Lana Del Rey, Quavo: 'Tough'
Lana Del Rey and Quavo sparked dating rumors in May. The two were spotted hanging out together several times, with Lana sharing a video of them at a bar on social media. Little did fans know, the pop star and the hip-hop artist were working on their collaborative song.
On July 3, Lana and Quavo launched "Tough", which is described as "a tale about difficulties facing both family and drugs" and "a track of re-insurance, suggesting togetherness no matter how rocky the road becomes." That same day, the collaborators treated their fans to the official music video of the single.
9. Machine Gun Kelly, Jelly Roll: 'Lonely Road'
Machine Gun Kelly surprised his fans when he announced a collaborative song with Jelly Roll. MGK, who is known for his genre duality across alternative rock with hip-hop, joined forces with the country star to create "Lonely Road", which came out on July 26.
MGK revealed that he and Jelly "worked on 'Lonely Road' for 2 years, 8 different studios, 4 different countries, changed the key 4 times" before finally launching the single. It quickly became fans' favorite, debuting at No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
10. Lady GaGa and Bruno Mars: 'Die With a Smile'
Lady GaGa and Bruno Mars left their fans surprised when announcing that they had worked together to create a collaborative song titled "Die With a Smile". Shortly after sharing the exciting news, they launched the track on August 16.
Despite not doing a lot of promotion for the joint song, the collaboration by pop icon GaGa and soul/RnB artist Bruno turned out to be successful. As many fans have been listening to the song, which was released along with an accompanying music video, the song rises to No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.
