Brandy returns to the horror genre with a chilling new role, pushing her boundaries as an actress to deliver a performance that stays with her even after the filming is over.

AceShowbiz - Singer and actress Brandy takes a bold step back into the horror genre with her role in "The Front Room," an A24 film that hit theaters on September 6. Based on Susan Hill's short story of the same name, the film stars Brandy as Belinda, a young pregnant woman eagerly awaiting the birth of her first child with her husband, Norman, played by Andrew Burnap. However, their lives take a dark turn when they welcome Norman's mother, Solange, portrayed by Kathryn Hunter, into their home following the unexpected death of Norman's father.

Belinda's journey is not an easy one, as Solange's presence proves to be more sinister than initially perceived. "I stayed in character. I'm a little bit method, so it stayed with me," Brandy shared in an interview with PEOPLE. "But after, I was able to do a little bit of therapy to release the character and release the dark places that I had to go to with the character."

"The Front Room" marks Brandy's first horror film since "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" in 1998. Transitioning from her recent lighter roles, such as her iconic reprise of Cinderella in "Descendants: The Rise of Red" and last year's Netflix holiday movie "Best. Christmas. Ever!", Brandy embraced the challenge presented by the horror script.

"It scared me, so I wanted to do something like Belinda to see if I could pull it off, to see if I can expand my range as an actress, my depth," Brandy explained.

Working with acclaimed Shakespearean actress Kathryn Hunter and directors Sam and Max Eggers, Brandy sought to deliver a compelling and authentic performance. To navigate Belinda's complex emotions, she hired an acting coach and prepared rigorously. "She's such a phenomenal actress. I wanted to be able to react to her and stay as present as possible," Brandy said, acknowledging the pressure that came with starring in an A24 film.

As the film makes its way into theaters, Brandy expressed her nervous anticipation. "That's a lot of pressure," she admitted. "I want them to love it. I want them to relate to the characters. I want them to see themselves in the story." Ultimately, Brandy hopes audiences will root for Belinda's journey and find victory in her liberation by the film's end.

"The Front Room" also opens doors for Brandy to potentially join the upcoming reboot of "I Know What You Did Last Summer," hinting at her renewed interest in the horror genre. For young fans and horror enthusiasts alike, her return is a thrilling development worth watching.
