AceShowbiz - Slipknot's Sid Wilson is on the mend after suffering severe burns from a bonfire explosion last week. The 47-year-old musician, who resides on a farm in Iowa with his girlfriend Kelly Osbourne and their young son Sidney, gave fans a health update and recounted the harrowing experience that landed him in the hospital.
In an interview with Fox News, Wilson described his injuries, stating, "My whole right arm is bandaged up, half of my left arm. My face is basically melted from nose down. But the swelling's gone down, and they said the face is kind of amazing that it's regenerative, it happens real fast, seems to heal quickly."
He detailed how the accident occurred when he attempted to reignite a burn pile with gasoline, leading to an unexpected explosion. "My lack of patience got the better of me, and I was like, screw it. I'll be alright, you know? And I squatted down and reached out and lit it, and it just, it was really humid out so there was still a lot of vapors lingering around in there, and it just ... woof. Exploded," Wilson explained.
Following the explosion, Wilson quickly alerted Osbourne and rushed to a nearby urgent care before being transferred to a larger hospital in Des Moines, and subsequently to a burn unit in Iowa City. He mentioned that the hardest part of the ordeal was the feeling of having made a "stupid" mistake.
"I'm not going to let it get me depressed. The hardest part is just feeling stupid for doing it. It's not even the physical part. It's like going, 'Oh, man, I really learned that the hard way.' I've got to make sure I just slow down sometimes and really examine the situation before I just dive in headfirst," he noted.
Osbourne has been a crucial part of Wilson's recovery, providing essential care at home. He shared his gratitude on social media, posting a video of Osbourne redressing his wounds with the caption, "@kellyosbourne having the Florence Nightingale effect on me."
Despite his injuries, Wilson remains optimistic and is determined to join Slipknot for their upcoming performances. The band reassured fans via social media, stating, "Our brother Sid Wilson was in an accident today and sustained burns across his body. He's recovering with his family and will still join us on stage at Rocklahoma next weekend."
As the DJ for Slipknot, Wilson is particularly concerned about the state of his hands and arms as he prepares to perform again. Ensuring fans of his resilience, he stated, "I'll be there, man. I always find a way to pull it off," recalling previous instances where he performed despite serious injuries.
In closing, Wilson offered a cautionary message that underscores the inherent risks of handling fire, saying, "Don't f**k around with fire. It's going to win every time."
