AceShowbiz - Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has taken his relationship with Taylor Swift to a new level by investing in a racehorse named Swift Delivery. This 3-year-old gelding, obtaining his name purely by coincidence, has become a unique symbol of the couple's high-profile love story.
Barry Irwin, founder and CEO of Team Valor International, was the first to announce the news. "It's very exciting," Irwin said in a phone interview with the Associated Press. "I met him at the Kentucky Derby, and we talked about horses and everything. When this horse came to light and it was owned by one of my partners already, with the name I figured this has got to be a no-brainer."
Kelce's leap into the world of horse racing went public on Team Valor's website on August 27. However, Irwin clarified that Swift Delivery's name is just a "total coincidence" and not an intentional nod to the pop star.
Kelce's brother Jason Kelce couldn't help but join the fun, teasingly posting on social media, "But does it have an enlarged heart... Can this horse do it with a broken heart! @tkelce," referencing Swift's song "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" from her latest album "The Tortured Poets Department".
Swift Delivery hasn't disappointed his new owners so far. The gelding has won his last two races at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, making him an attractive prospect in the racing community. Managed by trainer Mark Casse and jockey Patrick Husbands, Swift Delivery is slated to race again this Saturday at Woodbine.
Kelce's investment in Swift Delivery aligns him with other athletes delving into horse racing ownership, such as former MLB All-Star Jayson Werth and NHL defenseman Erik Johnson. This new venture comes on the heels of Kelce's near $100,000 win at the Kentucky Derby earlier this year. "I almost won $100,000 off a Japanese horse in the Kentucky Derby. Do you think America would have shamed me for that?" Kelce jokingly asked his brother on their podcast.
Beyond horse racing, Kelce and Swift's relationship remains strong and public. They have been frequently spotted together, from Swift attending Kelce's NFL games to Kelce making surprise appearances at Swift's "Eras Tour" concerts, including a notable appearance at London's Wembley Stadium.
"They really are very, very happy together," a close source reported to PEOPLE. "They're very serious about each other, and the relationship feels different for both of them."
