AceShowbiz - The Sonic franchise continues its momentum with the release of the first trailer for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3". This latest installment brings on A-list star Keanu Reeves as Shadow, a character who debuted in the 2001 game "Sonic Adventure 2". Shadow is described as a dark and edgy counterpart to Sonic, with similar powers but a different backstory.
The trailer reveals that Shadow's path began similarly to Sonic's, but while Sonic found family and friends, Shadow encountered only pain and loss.
Paramount Pictures previously unveiled a sneak peek of Sonic 3 at CinemaCon, hinting at the return of Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik as the antagonist. Robotnik, dejected after the events of "Sonic 2", finds solace in creating Shadow to defeat Sonic, voiced once again by Ben Schwartz.
The Sonic franchise has been a resounding success, with the first film grossing $319 million and the sequel earning $404 million globally. Jeff Fowler directs all three films, with Schwartz starring alongside James Marsden as Sonic's human friend Tom Wachowski.
Reeves joins the cast of Hollywood stars who have contributed to the "Sonic" films. Idris Elba played Knuckles in the 2022 sequel and later reprised the role in the Paramount+ series.
"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" boasts a talented ensemble, including Alyla Browne as Maria Robotnik, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, Elba and Carrey returning as Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Sonic's adoptive parents, and Krysten Ritter. The film hits theaters on December 20, 2023.
