AceShowbiz - Macklemore won't be performing in Dubai anytime soon. The "Thrift Shop" hitmaker, who was supposed to perform in the city in October, decided to scrap the gig due to United Emirate Arab's role in the ongoing crisis in Sudan.

The emcee announced the cancellation on Saturday, August 24. In a lengthy Instagram post, he claimed he had many people "asking me to cancel the show in solidarity with the people of Sudan and to boycott doing business in the UAE for the role they are playing in the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis."

Now that he's canceled his show, Macklemore added that he would not perform in the country "until the UAE stops arming and funding RSF." He was referring to the paramilitary faction in Sudan called the Rapid Support Forces.

"I know that this will probably jeopardize my future shows in the area, and I truly hate letting any of my fans down," the Grammy winner continued. "I was really excited too. But until the UAE stops arming and funding the RSF I will not perform there."

"I have no judgment against other artists performing in the UAE," he further noted. "But I do ask the question to my peers scheduled to play in Dubai: If we used our platforms to mobilize collective liberation, what could we accomplish?"

Not only Sudan, Macklemore has been vocal with his support for Palestine. In May, he dropped a song titled "Hind's Hall," a reference to the fact that protesters at Columbia University renamed Hamilton Hall as Hind's Hall. The rename is a tribute to a 6-year-old who was reportedly killed by Israeli forces.

On the track, Macklemore slams "lies" that "it's antisemitic to be antizionist" before accusing Israel of genocide. "If students in tents posted on the lawn occupying the quad is really against the law and a reason to call in the police and their squad, where does genocide land in your definition, huh?" he spits.
