AceShowbiz - Donald Trump's campaign has a history of using artists' songs without permission, and their latest attempt to troll Kamala Harris may land them in more legal trouble. Donald Trump's spokesperson, Steven Cheung, posted a clip of the former president landing in Michigan on Tuesday, August 20.
The clip was edited to include Beyonce Knowles's song "Freedom", which Harris was granted use of less than a day after entering the race. The song has since become indelibly linked to her campaign.
Trump's camp has a history of using songs without artists' permission, including the Isaac Hayes-penned hit "Hold on I'm Coming". The estate for Hayes has sued Trump for $3 million for the unlicensed use of the song.
Previous musicians who have objected to Trump's use of their songs include Bruce Springsteen, Adele, Celine Dion, Elton John, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, the estate of George Harrison, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Earth Wind & Fire.
Users on social media were quick to point out the irony of Trump's attempt to co-opt Beyonce's song, given that he has previously accused Harris of copying him.
Meanwhile, Harris' campaign has made full use of "Freedom", including in her first campaign ad and her dramatic entrance at the DNC on Monday night. Rumors are swirling that Beyonce could appear as a surprise guest at the convention to perform the song and endorse Harris before her speech on Thursday.
