AceShowbiz - On Wednesday, August 14, Chappell Roan released footage from the video shoot of her song "Hot to Go!" in her hometown of Springfield, Missouri. The clip begins with Roan facing inquiries from a curious stranger who repeatedly asks if she's in a rock band. "I'm just a singer, nothing crazy," Roan replies, unaware of the meteoric rise her career would embark on shortly after.
The video then showcases Roan traversing various landmarks in Springfield, including a horse mural, a fork-shaped sculpture, and a theater. While at a mini-golf course, Roan expresses her initial embarrassment at being surrounded by a crowd. However, she quickly regains her confidence, declaring, "You know what? It doesn't matter."
Roan also expresses gratitude for her costars in the video: drag performers Tina HC, Ether and Preston Schaeffer. Together, they perform the song's "YMCA"-inspired choreography. "I'm very lucky to have queens and trans people a part of this," Roan says, recognizing the influence of drag on her as an artist.
"Hot to Go!" was released on August 11, 2023, and has since climbed the Billboard Hot 100 to reach a peak of No. 17. The video features Roan teaching the dance to her grandparents, fans, and others while using various backdrops, including bleachers, a gas station, and monster trucks.
To commemorate the song's anniversary, Roan wore the blue leotard from the video during her performance at Outside Lands on August 11. She also addressed fans in the festival's VIP section who refused to participate in the dance, scolding them for not having "fun."
Roan's fashion choices, heavily inspired by drag, have become an integral part of her onstage persona. In the "Hot to Go!" video, she rocks a blue sequin leotard with stars, a golden belt, and epaulets, embodying cheerleading, band, and dance aesthetics.
