AceShowbiz - George Clooney has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, and his recent remarks about Quentin Tarantino are no exception. During a joint cover story interview for GQ magazine with long-time friend and "Wolfs" co-star Brad Pitt, Clooney expressed his irritation over Tarantino's comments about his celebrity status.
Clooney revealed, "Quentin said some s*** about me recently, so I'm a little irritated by him. He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Pitt] and somebody else, and then this [interviewer] goes, 'Well, what about George?' He goes, 'He's not a movie star.' And then he literally said something like, 'Name me a movie since the millennium.' "
Tarantino's comments didn't sit well with Clooney, whose career has seen significant successes since the year 2000 with films such as "The Perfect Storm", the "Oceans Eleven" series, "Gravity", and "Hail Caesar!". Clooney noted, "Since the millennium? That's kind of my whole f***ing career." Pitt, present during the interview, found the situation amusing, but it's clear Clooney felt the sting.
The discourse around stardom extends beyond personal jabs; Clooney and Pitt discussed how Hollywood no longer produces movie stars like it did in their heyday. Clooney explained, "Well, they haven't developed stars the way the studio system used to."
"We kind of were at the very end of that, where you could work at a studio and do three or four films, and there was some plan to it. And I don't think that's necessarily the case anymore. So it's harder for you to sell somebody something on the back of a star."
However, Clooney also acknowledged the current industry's opportunities, noting, "But it's a great time as a young actor... Now there's 600 shows. So there's a lot more work for actors." Reflecting on his ongoing and varied career, Clooney stated, "So part of life for me was always, the lack of massive success allowed me to do other things and try new things."
While Clooney's career has slowed in recent years, he remains active with new projects like the upcoming film "Wolfs" and Noah Baumbach's Netflix feature. Additionally, Clooney is setting his sights on Broadway with his play "Good Night", and "Good Luck". He said, "Look, that's going to be six months of my life in New York... But this is an opportunity to do something that I have never done before."
Despite the tension, Clooney remains focused on quality projects and enjoys his life off-screen, particularly time spent with his wife, Amal, and their children. As Clooney continues to diversify his career, it's clear he will remain a resilient figure in Hollywood, regardless of any critique from fellow industry veterans.
