A representative for the actor, who also co-starred with Tom Hanks in 'Punchline', confirms that he passed away in his sleep at his friend's Brooklyn home over the weekend.

AceShowbiz - Hollywood is losing one of its own. Actor Angel Salazar, best known for his role as Al Pacino's trusted sidekick "Chi Chi" in the iconic gangster film "Scarface", has passed away in his sleep at the age of 68.

Salazar's representative and closest friend Ann Wingsong confirmed the sad news to TMZ on Sunday, August 11. According to the report, the actor was found dead at his friend's Brooklyn home over the weekend.

On Sunday morning, the friend went to check Salazar in a room and found his body in bed. A cause of death has not been disclosed, but Wingsong said Salazar suffered from heart issues prior to his untimely passing. Details of his funeral plans are yet to be released.

Salazar starred as Chi Chi, the devoted henchman of Pacino's famous character Tony Montana, in the 1983 Brian DePalma-directed film "Scarface". He's known for the memorable "chainsaw scene," in which Chi Chi saves Tony's life.

Salazar also worked opposite Tom Hanks in 1988's comedy-drama film "Punchline". He later reunited with Pacino for 1993's drama "Carlito's Way". His other film credits included 1980's "Where the Buffalo Roam", 1982's "A Stranger Is Watching", 1984's "The Wild Life" and 1985's "Sylvester".

The Cuban-American actor was also a celebrated comedian. He was best known for saying "Sheck it out" ("check it out") before, during and after jokes. He had a number of HBO specials and made an appearance on "Last Comic Standing".

Salazar's last known performance was held at Reno's Silver Legacy resort and casino from August 1 to August 4. His last film was "The Brooklyn Premiere" by director Eric Spade Rivas, which had him reunite in scenes with Steven Bauer from "Scarface". Filming will wrap in late 2024.

Days leading to his passing, Salazar was following the 2024 Paris Olympics, as evidenced in his Instagram post. He posted a tribute to Simone Biles, celebrating the athlete's record-breaking achievements.
