Disney showcases a brand new trailer for the upcoming prequel movie and announces the addition of Lin-Manuel Miranda as the film's songwriter at the D23 Expo.

AceShowbiz - During the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23, Disney treated fans to a glimpse of its upcoming photorealistic prequel "Mufasa: The Lion King". The new trailer showcased a heartwarming moment between young Mufasa and Scar, voiced by Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr., showcasing their early "brotherhood" before their relationship fractured.
Director Barry Jenkins ("Moonlight") introduced the trailer and expressed his honor in telling Mufasa's story. Lin-Manuel Miranda joined Jenkins to preview an original song titled "I Always Wanted a Brother", which will appear in a scene depicting Mufasa and Scar as young cubs forming an unbreakable bond.
The prequel follows the orphaned Mufasa's journey as he meets Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline, and their transformation into brothers. Featuring an all-star voice cast, including Beyonce Knowles as Nala, Donald Glover as Simba, and Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros, the film reunites Jenkins with his team of collaborators, including composer Nicholas Britell and editor Joi McMillon.
Disney also released a new trailer highlighting the shift in Mufasa and Scar's relationship from siblings to adversaries. The film explores their early years, offering a deeper understanding of their motivations and the events that led to their ultimate confrontation.
"Mufasa: The Lion King" is set to premiere on December 20.
