AceShowbiz - Will Ferrell, the legendary comic actor who brought us countless laughs through his roles on "Saturday Night Live" and in blockbuster comedies, might not actually be who you think he is. During an appearance on Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler's podcast, "MeSsy", Ferrell revealed that his real name is John William Ferrell.
The actor, now 56, recounted how he felt awkward correcting his teachers every school year. "This is a minor thing in terms of-it's not really even trauma-but I remember feeling so embarrassed because my real name is John, John William Ferrell," he explained. "So first day of school, I'd be John. The teacher would be like 'John Ferrell?' and it was so embarrassing to me to have to say, 'Here, but I go by Will, I don't go by John.' "
The excruciating experience didn't just last a day; it would take about a week for his teachers to catch on to his preferred name. "For the first week of school, it took like a week before the teacher remembered, 'That's right, you're Will.' And that was excruciating," Ferrell said. He admitted that he couldn't quite understand why it was so embarrassing but noted that the memory has stuck with him throughout his life.
In a humorous exchange with Sigler, Ferrell admitted it wasn't his choice to go by "Will" instead of "John," explaining that his parents had always called him Will from birth. This led to a unique challenge for the young boy, who had to muster the courage to correct his teachers and peers frequently. "I don't know why that was so embarrassing to me to have to explain 'I'm actually Will,' " he mused during the podcast episode.
