AceShowbiz - As "The Boys" gears up for its highly anticipated fifth and final season, speculation and excitement are building around how the series will conclude. Could it end with a blockbuster film or simply on a high note? Here's what we know so far.
The world of "The Boys" may not be getting its own "Avengers"-style blockbuster moment after all, despite fervent campaigning from cast member Laz Alonso, who plays Mother’s Milk. Alonso revealed during a live taping of the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast that he has been "unsuccessfully pitching" a feature film to wrap up the Prime Video series. "Like, make the last episode of season 5 a cliffhanger and announce the film that we've been filming since the beginning of the series, pretty much," Alonso said, lamenting how showrunner Eric Kripke "always somehow gets out of that one."
Kripke has been clear about his vision, announcing that "season 5 will be the final season," and he has "an ending in mind" for "The Boys". The showrunner had initially hinted during a 2020 interview that his "rough idea" was for the series to span five seasons. Karl Urban and Antony Starr, who star in the series as Billy Butcher and Homelander respectively, are aligned with Kripke’s vision, emphasizing the importance of finishing the series on a strong note. Speaking to the podcast audience, Starr noted, "I think everyone wants to go out on a strong note, and I think there’s nothing worse - and I’ve been involved in a show that did this, it was f**king horrible - you do that last season and it’s shit."
Season 4 of "The Boys" has been a rollercoaster, with storylines ranging from Homelander's tightening grip on the masses to Hughie's poignant reunion with his mother, and the unsettling revelation involving Billy Butcher's old military colleague, Joe Kessler. Additionally, the season has drawn troubling real-world parallels, with social and political commentary that strikes eerily close to home.
While the main series may be wrapping up, the universe of "The Boys" won't be disappearing anytime soon. Exciting spinoffs are in the works. These include the animated series "The Boys Presents: Diabolical", the college spin-off "Gen V", and the upcoming "The Boys: Mexico," which is still in development.
New episodes of "The Boys" season 4 are currently available to stream on Prime Video, with fresh episodes dropping every Thursday. Whether the series concludes with a cliffhanger leading into a feature film or ties everything together neatly, fans can expect an epic, gory, and emotionally charged finish.
