AceShowbiz - On July 4, 2024, Willie Nelson returned to his annual Fourth of July Picnic event in Camden, New Jersey, after briefly stepping away from performing due to health issues. As he took to the stage, the 91-year-old music legend was greeted with cheers and love from enthusiastic fans.
Nelson's set included classic hits such as "On the Road Again", "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" and "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground". He also debuted his new song, "The Border".
In June 2024, Nelson had missed several shows at the Outlaw Music Festival due to "doctor's orders." A statement from his team confirmed that the Grammy-winning artist was feeling unwell and advised to rest. Lukas Nelson and the Family Band performed in his stead.
Despite occasional health setbacks, Nelson remains dedicated to performing. In 2019, he postponed shows due to a "breathing problem" but later resumed his tour after recovering. He attributes his longevity to his positive mindset, appreciating every opportunity to entertain audiences.
"I appreciate everything I get and I've been lucky," Nelson told Forbes. "I'm enjoying the singing, I think it's good for me. People come up, right away, pay some money to come hear me or somebody sing, and it's a great energy exchange out there and I look forward to it every time."
When asked about retirement, Nelson jokingly responded, "Jokingly, I retire after every tour. But I'm always ready to go back again." He explained that he enjoys the convenience and comfort of his tour bus and finds performing therapeutic.
