Contrary to fans' belief, the former Fifth Harmony member makes it clear on X that she's not throwing shades at her ex-boyfriend and 'Senorita' collaborator with her comments.

AceShowbiz - Camila Cabello has clarified her remarks during her set at Rock in Rio Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil earlier this month. Contrary to fans' belief, the former Fifth Harmony member made it clear on X that she's not throwing shades at her ex Shawn Mendes with her comments.

Camila quote-retweeted a fan's post featuring a video of performance at the music festival. "ps: was not shade !!! was trying my hand at stand up comedy always luv," the "Senorita" hitmaker noted.

In the clip, the Cuban star said, "So guys, I was dating this guy. He's like, "I hate the ocean-so scared of the ocean." She continued, "I wake up, we break up. There's a picture of him surfing online! What the hell!" before proceeding to sing her song "Bam Bam".

Upon catching wind of Camila's performance, fans initially thought that Camila was shading Shawn. They also pointed out some snaps of the "Stitches" singer surfing.

However, some fans backed her claims. One noted in an Instagram comment, "shawn has been surfing since like 2016 or even before so she ain't talkin about him probably." Someone else commented, "It's not shade … she said nothing shady about him but something relatable who wants to see your ex everywhere?"

"It wasn't a shade it's literally the opening for bam bam 'said you hated the ocean but your surfing now said I love you for life but I just sold our house' … the song came out in 2022," another fan added. "He liked the song and it's what happened they broke up two days later he was on vacation surfing and posting pictures and he has admitting to his deep fear of water. And then she sold the house-technically it was hers but they lived together."

"not y'all labeling this as shade let her have fun pls it was literally just a joke," one other wrote. Similarly, another user added, "It was funny. Let women joke."

Camila and Shawn first sparked romance rumors in July 2019, one month after they released their smash hit collaborative song "Senorita". The pair, however, called it quits after two years of dating. "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends," they announced back in November 2021.

The exes later rekindled their romance in April 2023 when they were packing on PDA at Coachella, though the reunion was brief. "It was a fun moment," Camila said of their short-lived reunion on "Call Her Daddy" podcast earlier this year.

She further divulged. "I think you're just kind of like, 'Yeah, this doesn't really … it's not a fit - it doesn't feel right. Luckily, I was in a place in my life where … it took us both less time to be like, 'This doesn't feel right and we don't really need to try so hard to make it work. It's all good, let's move on.' "
