'Golden Bachelor' Stars Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist Finalize Divorce, Two Months After Split

A couple of months after calling it quits, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have settled their divorce and both are back to being single again following their whirlwind romance.

AceShowbiz - Gerry Turner, 72, and Theresa Nist, 70, who stole America's hearts on the first season of "The Golden Bachelor," officially settled their divorce on June 13, according to court documents viewed by multiple sources.

The couple had announced their split on April 12, citing irreconcilable differences primarily stemming from their living situation. Turner resides in Indiana while Nist is dedicated to her family in New Jersey, which made cohabitation challenging for the pair.

During a candid interview on "Good Morning America", Turner explained, "Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we've looked closely at our situation... we've kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it's probably time for us to dissolve our marriage." Turner later filed for divorce in Indiana that same day.

Despite their brief marriage, both Turner and Nist expressed respect and affection for each other. Turner emphasized their mutual dedication to family, which played a significant role in their decision to part ways. "The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it's been how dedicated both of us are to our families," he said.

Nist also shared her sentiments on Instagram three days after the announcement, referring to her relationship with Turner as "one of the most incredible experiences of my life." She added, "Sometimes things don't go the way you planned and that's okay. I take so many positives away from this experience."

Adding more insight into the breakup, "Golden Bachelor" contestant Susan Noles commented on "The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham" that Turner may have felt cornered as Nist decided against relocating or giving up her job, which left him frustrated. "He got the wrong end of it," Noles said.

Fans of "The Golden Bachelor" have certainly been left in shock by the dissolution of a love story that seemed promising. Turner proposed to Nist over runner-up Leslie Fhima in a romantic finale that aired in November, and their wedding was televised on January 4.

However, the relationship was not without its hurdles, as Turner faced criticism from a prior romantic relationship that ended tumultuously in 2019.

As the curtain closes on Turner and Nist's chapter, ABC has already set the stage for a new romance, announcing Joan Vassos, a 61-year-old grandmother from Maryland, as the first Golden Bachelorette.
