The 'Anyone but You' actor shares a horrifying tale on a podcast about his sister's friend's encounter with a cannibal serial killer, but skeptics question the authenticity of the tale.

AceShowbiz - When actor Glen Powell recently appeared on the "Therapuss" podcast, no one could have anticipated the shocking story he shared. However, many are now questioning the authenticity of his tale.
According to Powell, a friend of his younger sister narrowly escaped a horrifying fate at the hands of a charming date who turned out to be a serial killer and cannibal. He recounted, "You want to hear a crazy story? My little sister was friends with a girl who went on a date with a guy. They're hanging out, and he's super charming."
Powell continued the story, describing how the evening took a disturbing turn when the man offered a massage back at his apartment. "As she got back to his apartment, she started getting weird vibes. Something feels off."
Despite her apprehension, the woman accepted the massage. "He starts massaging her shoulders. Everything just feels odd. She's like, 'I gotta get out of here.' It's a little weird, he's like, 'Please don't leave.' She leaves."
The nightmare didn't end there. The next day, the woman noticed her skin itching excessively. Upon visiting a doctor, she learned the lotion used during the massage was a black-market substance designed to break down skin for human consumption.
Powell shocked listeners further by revealing, "This man was rubbing lotion on her body to eat her. The doctor is like you have to give me this person's address and you should call the police. They go to this guy's house, and he had several girls' bodies in the house."
The narrative quickly went viral, leaving people understandably unsettled and skeptical. Many users on social media questioned the plausibility of the story, noting its striking resemblance to urban legends and movies. Indeed, Snopes, a popular fact-checking site, debunked the story, tracing its origins to an email chain that began circulating in 2001.
Snopes points out that the tale has evolved over the years, often involving a near-sexual encounter with a cannibal. "My god I could not have expected the way that story ended like what do you mean there's a lotion that breaks down bodies for human consumption," one person reacted online.
Others drew comparisons to the 2022 horror-comedy "Fresh," which features a similar cannibal plotline and stars Powell's "Twister" costar Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Earlier this year, Glen Powell admitted he and his "Anyone but You" co-star Sydney Sweeney fuelled their affair rumors in order to boost their movie released last year.
"The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry," he said. "Sydney and I have a lot of fun together, and we have effortless chemistry. That's people wanting what's on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it."
Whether this time Powell knowingly shared an urban legend or genuinely believed the story, his disturbing story has captivated and terrified audiences.
