'SNL' Alum Beck Bennett Joins James Gunn's 'Superman'

The former 'Saturday Night Live' star has been added to the cast of Gunn's upcoming Superman film as Steve Lombard, a prominent reporter at the Daily Planet.

AceShowbiz - Beck Bennett, best known for his eight-season stint on "Saturday Night Live", has been cast in James Gunn's forthcoming "Superman" film. According to Gunn's Instagram announcement, Bennett will portray Steve Lombard, a veteran NFL quarterback who transitioned to journalism after a brief descent into villainy.

Steve Lombard has been a recurring character in Superman comics since his debut in 1973, often portrayed as a rival to the Daily Planet's main reporters.

In Gunn's Superman film, Bennett joins a cast that includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, andWendell Pierce as Perry White. The film also features an array of DC superheroes, played by Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan and Maria Gabriela de Faria.

"Superman" is set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025. It will serve as the first film in the newly established DCU, launching a fresh and expansive cinematic universe. James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios in 2022, with the mission of revitalizing the DC franchise and creating a cohesive narrative across all projects.
