AceShowbiz - Julie Bowen recently opened up about her experience supporting Sarah Hyland through an alleged abusive relationship a decade ago. Bowen, who played Hyland's on-screen mother in "Modern Family", recalled being there for Hyland at a critical time.
"I was a responsible adult that happened to be around at the right time," Bowen said on the podcast "The Skinny Confidential Him & Her". "I mean, I'm sure another responsible adult would have done the exact same thing. I just love her."
Bowen also expressed her maternal connection to all the actors who played her children on the show, including Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez. "I look at them all like my kids," she said. "I love them."
In 2014, Hyland obtained a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Prokop, after accusing him of physical and verbal abuse. According to court documents, Hyland alleged that Prokop had choked her and threatened her after they broke up. Bowen, who had previously stated that she was "nosy" and willing to help anyone in need, reportedly played a role in helping Hyland leave the relationship safely.
Despite the hardship Hyland faced, she has since moved on and tied the knot with "The Bachelorette" alum Wells Adams in 2022. Some of her "Modern Family" co-stars, including Bowen, were present at their wedding.
Bowen's unwavering support and maternal bond with her on-screen family demonstrate the power of human connection, both on and off the screen.
