AceShowbiz - Pop icon Cyndi Lauper is preparing to bid farewell to her fans on the road with the announcement of her "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour." This tour marks Lauper's first major road trip in a decade, set to kick off on October 18 in Montreal and concluding on December 5 at Chicago's United Center.
Lauper, who will turn 70 on June 22, has yet to release an official statement detailing her reasons for retiring from the road. However, she'll be shedding some light on this significant decision while promoting the new documentary about her career, "Let the Canary Sing."
The documentary, directed by Alison Ellwood, delves into her rise to fame, her political activism, and the timeless hits that have defined her career. It will premiere on Paramount+ on Tuesday, June 4, following its debut at Tribeca last year.
Fans of the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time" singer can look forward to seeing her perform in arenas across 23 North American cities, including notable venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York and the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Lauper's farewell tour also includes a special non-arena show at Detroit's Fox Theatre on October 24.
Special guests will be joining Lauper on this nostalgic journey although their identities are yet to be revealed. Tickets for the tour will go on sale during an artist presale on Tuesday, with general sales commencing on Friday, June 7, at 10 A.M. local time via LiveNation.com.
In celebration of her storied career, Lauper will participate in a handprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on the same day as the documentary's release. Following the ceremony, she'll attend a private local premiere of the film, accompanied by a Q&A session.
Earlier this year, Lauper entered a partnership with the Swedish masterminds behind the immersive virtual concert, ABBA Voyage. This collaboration aimed to introduce Lauper's timeless music to younger audiences through innovative live experiences.
Over the weekend, Lauper was honored as a Lifetime Ally Icon at the West Hollywood Pride Parade in recognition of her decades-long advocacy for LGBTQ rights, social justice, and women's issues.
As Lauper prepares to grace the stage one last time, fans have a final opportunity to witness the magic of her live performances - a fitting tribute to a legendary career that has spanned over four decades.
